What makes these collagen supplements different?

We've invested in our own independent clinical research, including our BECOME study on True Collagen and Wild Collagen. Every product is also independently tested through our Brave Standard quality programme, from raw ingredients to finished formula. There are no added flavourings or filler ingredients, keeping our formulations simple and purposeful.

What's the difference between bovine and marine collagen?

Both provide 100% hydrolysed type I collagen peptides, which have been studied for skin, joint and other connective tissue health. The difference comes down to source and dietary preference. True Collagen is sourced from grass-fed EU herds, and Wild Collagen from MSC-certified wild-caught fish. You can find out more about the differences between marine, bovine, vegan & Type II collagen here.

What's the difference between Type I and Type II collagen?

Type I is a key structural protein and is the most abundant collagen in the body; it is found throughout skin, bones, tendons and other connective tissues. Type II collagen is found primarily in cartilage and has been studied specifically for joint health. It helps maintain cartilage health and supports joint flexibility and recovery. You can take both type I and type II together to support different aspects of connective tissue. For a deeper dive into the differences between these two collagen types, see our guide: Everything you Need to Know About Type 1 + Type 2 Collagen.

How long do collagen supplements take to work?

It varies widely from person to person, partly because the body prioritises where collagen is needed most first. Research suggests gut benefits tend to come sooner, around 6 weeks, often followed by meaningful changes to skin and hair at around 8-12 weeks. Joint improvements tend to take longer, but may be noticed after 3 to 6 months of consistent use. Our post on how long it takes for collagen supplements to start working is a great guide on what to expect. Just note that how much you take daily and consistently makes a difference, and individual responses vary.

Do collagen supplements actually work?

Research into hydrolysed collagen peptides continues to grow, with studies showing promising results across a range of health outcomes. Our BECOME collagen clinical trial, double-blind, placebo-controlled, completed on 60 UK women over 12 weeks, found 100% reported improved skin elasticity, 70% reported better joint function, and 80% reported improved energy. But don't just take our word for it. In 2026, Anglia Ruskin University released a significant collagen research study that demonstrated that hydrolysed collagen peptides can benefit skin elasticity, joint mobility, gut health and more. You can read more about the research here.

Are there any side effects to taking collagen supplements?

Collagen supplements are generally very well tolerated for most people.  If you are new to collagen, or have sensitive digestion, we recommend starting at 5g daily and building gradually to help digestion. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or taking medication, we recommend consulting your GP or healthcare professional first.

Can collagen supplements support me during menopause?

As oestrogen levels decline, so does collagen production, which may lead to joints that don’t feel as flexible or a loss of elasticity in our skin. Type I collagen and Type II collagen have been studied for supporting skin and joint health. Many people choose to include collagen as part of their daily menopause routine, alongside other lifestyle practices that support overall wellbeing.

Which collagen supplement should I take?

The right collagen for you will vary, depending on your personal health goals and circumstances. For skin, joints and whole-body health, we’d suggest starting with True Collagen or Wild Collagen. If your goal is targeted joint support, Noble Collagen, which uses Type II collagen, may be a better choice for you. For those looking for a vegan or plant-based collagen alternative, we offer Radiant Collagyn. Our Which Collagen guide and Health Goal Quiz can help walk you through the decision, and if you need us to clarify anything for you, our customer support team is here to help.
